Roy Green has chaired Warrington Youth Orchestra for many years but he has never swum the English Channel. In January 2018 he will swim the virtual Channel (22 miles) to raise money for the Orchestra to spend in 2018 on what it does best - provide musical opportunities to Warrington's young people!
It ran from 12:00 PM, 1 January 2018 to 12:00 PM, 1 December 2018

"Countless studies throughout the world have PROVED that children do better in their other subjects if they study music and play an instrument. We are lagging behind countries like China that have recognised this and where children playing instruments and studying music in school is the norm." - Julian Lloyd Webber "Music has a power of forming the character and should therefore be introduced into the education of the young." - Aristotle
Formally, Warrington Youth Orchestra's objectives are "to help young people, especially but not exclusively through musical activities, so as to develop their capabilities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society". Funds raised will enable the Orchestra to provide greater opportunities to schoolchildren from the Warrington area to learn an orchestral instrument and make music with other young musicians in a supportive environment.
