Situation

Access to education for inmates is extremely limited in the African context. The problem is that APP needs to create an educational programme that is scalable and replicable for all prisons in Africa. The resources are not currently available within the prison service for educational programmes & the prison staff are not well equipped with the tools or knowledge needed to administer such programmes, therefore, educational projects are limited to the prisons in which APP has a physical presence.

Solution

APP wishes to draw on the knowledge it has gained from implementing educational projects, as well as drawing on other training materials that may be relevant, to develop an extensive library of training materials which can be used by prison staff to implement educational programmes in the prisons for the inmates in the areas of health, education, access to justice and community reintegration. These training materials will provide prison staff with a syllabus for each programme.
