Generate funding for the purchase of a specially adapted bus to transport patients. The bus will allow the transportation of patients needing wheelchairs and medical assistance. It will be used to take patients home after discharge or return home from Hospital and to take patients on social outings

    Situation

There is no facility at the Hospice to provide transportation for those without it. It is currently provided by the ambulance service who will start charging for each episode of transport. Nurses time is taken up by booking ambulances and no specific times are allocated when a request is made so patients are left waiting until an ambulance becomes available. When a patient is returned home the ambulance leaves, there is no home service provided.

    Solution

By having a Hospice Transport Service we will be able to reduce nursing time spent on administration, reduce patients waiting time by allocating specific times, pick up and drop off patients attending the Day Centre who otherwise would not be able to attend, provide a Home Service to help patients settle in after discharge.
