The Essex Biomedical Sciences Institute (EBSI) was established to promote research inthe medical and health sciences. The Institute acts as a bridge bringing together researchers from the University of Essex, and clinicians from Hospital NHS Trusts across the region.

The Essex Biomedical Sciences Institute is committed to providing training to future researchers and is seeking funding to enable students to carry out their research training (PhD) on a number of existing projects including: - Alzheimer's disease - Arthritis - Cancer biomarkers - Childhood obesity - Green care and therapy - Hospital superbugs - Olympic therapy The approximate cost of a three-year PhD studentship is £100,000 EBSI's cutting-edge research in health and medical sciences is focused on the needs of patients and the public, ensuring its research is targeted at what is really needed. EBSI plays a very important role promoting clinical and health research based on collaboration between academic staff in the University and clinicians in Hospital NHS Trusts. This is not only instrumental for translating research into medical practice, but also for the development of medical educaiton at the University of Essex.
