The University's Lakeside Theatre opened in 1972 and hosts musical productions, plays and avant garde performances serving both the University and local community. The Theatre currently occupies a subterranean location alongside the University's picturesque kaloes and parkland. This has however long been a challenge for the Lakeside Theatre as its current entrance does little to publicise its existence or reflect the quality of the Theatre and its productions. The Lakeside Theatre development will see the creation of an above ground entrance and foyer, full box office, cafe and bar and outside terrance. Internal renovations, including the introduction of a lift, will ensure full access for disabled people throughout. The cost of the renovation, which is expected to commence later this year, is anticipate at £780,000.
