  • “Being outside, having exercise, and being around people is really beneficial to my mental and physical health. The fact the rides are frequent gives me something to look forward to and helps me stay motivated to stay well, not self-harm and stay out of hospital so I can join the next ride".

  • “Bike Minded has helped me to at last begin to achieve my current recovery goal which is to get out more, and find activities in the community - to engage with people, make connections and become less isolated”

Situation

As more services close, living with mental health issues is tougher than ever before. The stigma around it means some people are reluctant to seek help - and for those that do, support is increasingly hard to find. As a result, many people become isolated. When this happens, the situation can become incredibly bleak.

Solution

Our annual programme of group bike rides explores green spaces and quiet cycle paths in the Bristol area. Riders boost their fitness whilst enjoying freedom, fresh air and tranquillity in the countryside. Each year these friendly rides enable around vulnerable people to: • Connect to local services and support networks with access to an affordable, refurbished bike • Boost their confidence and safety with one-to-one cycle training and knowledge of safe cycle routes. • Lift low mood
