Project Butterfly is an exciting refurbishment programme to transform the Marie Curie Hospice, Hampstead. The care is second to none, but the building is in desperate need of modernisation. From November 2007 we will be bringing the ageing facilities right into the 21st century, giving patients and their families the hospice they deserve.

    Situation

Project butterfly will transform the environment in which we deliver care at the Marie Curie Hospice Hampstead. The £3.4m refurbishment programme includes the creation of 26 en-suite single bedrooms and one four bed bay; new windows throughout and improved patient facilities to maximise independence and dignity. To address a strong patient preference for privacy, we will convert two of our multi bed wards to create six new single rooms. This will result in 26 single rooms with en suite toilets and one four bed bay totalling 30 beds. This will give patients increased privacy and improved facilities for their families while maintaining one four bed bay for those who prefer more social contact and the companionship of other patients. The refurbishment also includes replacing all windows in the building. This will create a more comfortable environment for patients and address problems of high heat in summer, and poor insulation in winter, while improving light and ventilation in each room. Our patients and their families deserve the highest level of comfort. We feel it is our responsibility to ensure they are cared for in a beautiful environment that enhances their wellbeing. The redevelopment of the Hospice will vastly improve facilities for the community and will result in greater access to better services in a more appropriate environment.
