Many of our residents are visited regularly by friends and families but sadly some have families who live far away - we would like to open up a new world to residents by helping them to get online and keep in touch with their loved ones.

    Situation

Abbeyfield residents receive support from staff and volunteers but we would like to encourage their contact with friends, relatives and the outside world ensuring that no one feels lonely or isolated. We are keen to share the benefits of broadband computing for all of our residents to help them to engage more with friends and family, broaden their contacts and helping them to access information and advice.

    Solution

By learning the basics of computing we are hoping our residents will be able to benefit from: • being able to email and speak to friends and relatives and even see them via a web camera • being able to access to advice and information services, Age UK, etc • have easy access to shop online health, current affairs, weather information, find games and entertainment including • opportunities for volunteers to get involved in Abbeyfield to help train and support our residents
