    Situation

Teaching the Teachers will develop student, probationary and newly qualified primary school teachers’ skills in using the expressive arts to provide cross-discipline learning activity as a tool for teaching in Scotland’s primary schools. Teaching the Teachers will play a central role in the development of a new generation of arts educationalists in Scotland. Teaching the Teachers aims to make a significant positive impact on the effectiveness of teaching and quality of children’s learning experience in Scotland’s primary schools by developing student and newly qualified primary school teachers’ skills in using the expressive arts as a tool for teaching. Scottish Opera and the other organisations consulted in the development of this proposal believe that it is timely, valuable and complementary to the Scottish Government’s current education initiatives. Teaching the Teachers promises to be the first step towards a major investment in, and development of, arts education for Scotland’s primary schools curriculum development and primary school teacher training.
