Situation

With only 30 hospitals within the UK admitting youth cancer patients, they are hospitalised far from home, family & friends for long periods of time whilst undergoing harsh & invasive treatments for their cancer. The words loneliness and isolation are heard too often from these young people. Chat-World will address these feelings and provide a secure communication network for these young people to gain peer support and share their concerns and fears with others.

Solution

Chat-World is a secure online communication network built within a 3D virtual world, an island of escape for young cancer patient a place to find peer support, develop, and empower other young cancer patients. Chat-World allows patients to create a 3D 'Avatar' of themselves – similar to their own appearance or a fantasy from their imagination. Once in Chat-World, they can explore a variety of areas, play games and most importantly be able to cope with the uncertainties of living with cancer.
