    Situation

The Town Hall, current hone of the Great Torrington Museum and Archive is to be refurbished, the Museum is not included in this project, therefore, have been given notice to relocate to a new home. April/May 2008. Currently the Museum is being packed for storage. An offer of land owned by The Landmark Trust has been made with the aim of providing a site that the Museum is able to develop as a permanent location for its collections and expand its activities keeping the Museum in the hart of the Town and next to our tourist attraction - 1646. The Heritage Centre would be a permanent home for the Museum collections, artefacts and archive material, it would give the opportunity to increase activities to include educational programmes, workrooms, computerised archive, library, storage, shop, and disabled access to the whole area. The emphasis will be on the heritage and learning centre which will be harmonised with school curriculum’s to give programmes with maximum advantage to children of all ages with interactive exhibits plus a public computerised family history centre. A heritage centre on this site would be high profile tourist attraction for Great Torrington in a unique position at the main entrance to the High Street of the Town.
