Interact provide advocacy and support to adults with learning disabilities, their children and families. This project is a diversity and equality programme for those with learning disabilities who may have issues of their own around diversity and discrimination. After attending the training, the project will train a number of people with learning disabilities to become trainers in their own right and earn an income by delivering the training course to organisations. UNIT1. Programme. The provision of an information, education programme around a range of dicversity issues which will include, race, gender, culture, class, age, disability, sexual orientation. This will be done by having various speakers, the examination of the participants own perceptions, case studies, role plays and visits to other disadvantaged groups. UNIT 2. Programme. The development of a user led training programme for people with learning difficulties, the statutory and voluntary sector staff and carers. This will include user prioritised content and delivery methods the participants consider most relevant. UNIT 3. Programme. The development of course materials and handbook for other organisations. The development and production of a course information CD for sale and the development of 4-6 of the participants as course trainers by them following the ‘Training for Change’ programmed developed at Sussex University by NIACE and CHANGE. The costs for the programme to operate for one year and support 4-6 individuals with learning disabilities to become trainers are in the region of £50,000.
