    Situation

THET has been working with health providers in Malawi for many years. Among other things, we have supported the training of nurses who have established and now run clinics for people with epilepsy. The four clinics are the first of their kind in Malawi and mean that people with epilepsy can now receive appropriate treatment and support. The clinics have quickly become a victim of their own success and demand for services is high. As a result, the Ministry of Health have asked us to work with health providers and other stakeholders to develop a national strategy for the care and management of people with epilepsy – a strategy that will include the decentralisation of services. To take this process forward, there is need to undertake a literature search and also undertake a small survey. In addition there will be a meeting of stakeholders to map a draft strategy. This initiative will provide the foundation for the future development of epilepsy services in the country. What’s needed:- £11,580 for research, consultation processes and strategy development.
