This campaign has now closed

The Residential aspect of this Project is already in existence and will be significantly improved and up-graded in the refurbishment due to commence in January 2008. Within this refurbishment we will create three rooms, dedicated to education and employment training for the young people in the project and for others who may attend on a sessional basis; these will be disadvantaged young people, some with learning difficulties and disabilities.

    Situation

Kenward Trust’s Lighthouse Project provides a beacon of hope for young people between the ages of 16 and 25 (in practice the client group consists mainly of 16 – 19 year olds!), suffering from homelessness problems in east Kent. Located in Cliftonville, the Lighthouse Project is one of a very few projects of its kind in Kent or indeed the UK., and provides a vital place of safety for young Thanet residents, in need of support. Kenward Trust has implemented a significant programme of complete refurbishment as funding allows. Finding themselves homeless for a variety of reasons, the Lighthouse Project has proved to be a life-saver for young people in desperate need of shelter and a safe haven from the perils that living on the streets can bring. Lighthouse Project residents receive practical assistance with all manner of life skills and other issues, such as assistance with job seeking, budgeting, recreational activities, benefit claims, applying for training/college courses, health and hygiene. Every resident is allocated a Key Worker who then facilitates a three stage bespoke Support Plan, which is agreed with each individual to address their particular needs. As the project leaflet proclaims, “Someone coming to the Lighthouse will find a place of human warmth and safety…”
