    Situation

Classroom facilities in many rural schools are simply inadequate. Some classes have to study in outdoor classrooms under trees. Others study in classrooms made with mud walls that disintegrate during the rainy season and provide little protection from the elements. Schools lack educational materials and teachers are poorly trained, keeping exam results low. Many children, especially older girls, drop out of school.

    Solution

Constructing or renovating classroom blocks will provide safe learning environments with desks for all children. Better toilet facilities and sanitary protection will encourage girls to remain in school. Children will be able to learn life skills through sporting activities. A variety of training sessions will also be conducted for the teachers, parents, pupils and the wider community, covering teaching methods, HIV and AIDS, school management, parental participation and gender awareness.
