Situation
Engagement with the arts has long been associated with benefits to individuals and communities such as: increased confidence, self-esteem, aspiration levels and increased personal and community pride. We believe that communities are revitalised through contact with the arts and as an arts organisation working in Wales, with your support, WNO will be best placed to galvanise change through the development of exemplary programmes that act as a catalyst for a more creative community contributing to the future of Wales. Over the next three years WNO will be focused on building stronger communities through singing and song. WNO has been pioneering in its innovative approach to educational outreach work over the last 6 years, often challenging the work of others and leading by example. Our recent work has been built on successful and award winning collaborations with artists and engaging participants and audiences in ambitious programmes. We have undergone intensive internal change to become a fit for purpose organisation with an outward focus. Over 6 years we have developed expertise in engaging communities in singing; further we have redefined ‘opera’ by embracing the broader and more inclusive concept of storytelling through music, and creating work on a huge range of scales. Welsh National Opera produces an integrated programme of activity beyond the main stage that maximises the resources of the Company. Our mission is that WNO and the diverse community it serves should develop side by side as equal partners in an adventurous programme that draws on and inspires the creativity of all those involved through participation and experience of live opera. WNO Max is a willing partners that works on a variety of scales, aspiring to be a catalyst for a more creative community.
