Prospects is a partnership programme which aims to reduce re-offending by supporting ex-offenders into full employment. The current re-offending rate is around 40%, and employment has been shown to be a key factor in reducing this.

    Situation

Prospects is led by Brathay and is running for two years initially, aiming to tackle the issue of re-offending. Prospects offers a comprehensive development programme, supporting offenders towards opportunities in employment. Candidates are referred to the programme by the Probation Service, and receive the following support: - a volunteer mentor who will work one-to-one with them for the duration of their involvement with Prospects - information, advice and guidance, and training in employability skills, life skills such as literacy, and industry-specific courses - a personal development programme focusing on confidence and motivation, interpersonal skills and behaviours, and managing and sustaining change. Prospects also engages local employers with the project to provide networking opportunities for ex-offenders, leading to employment. Employers receive tailored support to meet specific needs as they arise.
