Situation

Young people in Hackney and Haringey face challenges of poverty and deprivation, as well as social isolation, living in overcrowded homes, or dysfunctional families, amongst others. Most are from ethnic minority backgrounds attending underfunded faith school with little extra curricular activities. This seriously reduces the opportunities they have access to, which diminishes their chance to succeed in the future. It creates further social problems, reduces motivation, and increases truancy

Solution

We improve school performance by providing individualised homework support to help them keep up and do their best. We then provide access to a variety of courses to develop a range of skills. Each course builds the children's characters and skills in different ways. We also improve their heath and well being and focus on increasing their confidence, self esteem and social skills. When they succeed in our positive, nurturing environment they are motivated to do well at school and reduces truancy
