Everyone enjoys a wedding. What better way to help young Malagasy people “live happily ever after” than to teach them how to avoid catching and spreading HIV/AIDS! This project is primarily to educate young people about the risks of HIV/AIDS. Young people will attend debates, film shows and workshops run by local trainers. The future sustainability of this project will be guaranteed by an income generated from the hire of the project’s sound equipment to weddings.

    Situation

Currently less than 2% of the population of Madagascar is HIV+. If we act NOW there is still time to prevent an epidemic of the scale that plagues mainland Africa. Association ALF is keen to run talks, debates and show films in the Fandriana district to teach young people to protect themselves from this terrible disease. The trainers have teaching materials from the National AIDS Council. All they need to launch this project is cash for sound equipment, transport and allowances. As a mark of their commitment the Association has already raised £597. Just £3000 could change the outlook of thousands of young people in Southern Madagascar. Renting the sound equipment for weddings and parties will make this training programme self-financing after 6 months.
