9-13 million people are estimated to have been affected by the devastating typhoon that struck the Philippines on November 8. Despite challenges caused by the damage, we are already reaching people with aid like essential water and sanitation supplies that have been distributed and are being used.

    Situation

Thousands of homes, schools and hospitals have been destroyed, roads are impassable and people need food, water, shelter and power. Children are amongst the most vulnerable in the aftermath of an emergency and we are concerned about the potentially huge numbers of children who are separated from their families.

    Solution

UNICEF has over 90 staff in the Philippines who are working round the clock to deliver essential medicines, nutrition supplies, safe water and hygiene supplies to children and families. UNICEF’s first delivery of supplies landed in affected areas on the November 10, and was rapidly followed by further deliveries by air and road, including supplies such as emergency health kits, shelter equipment, life-saving food for malnourished children, and water and sanitation equipment.
