GIFT aims to give out healthy raw ingredients to low income families accompanied by recipe cards and tips to encourage healthier eating habits. GIFT will use volunteers from local schools to create these recipe cards and packages in order to promote a culture of giving amongst young people
It ran from 12:00 PM, 1 January 2015 to 12:00 PM, 1 July 2016
Registered Charity in England and Wales (1153393)
Many of the low income families that GIFT supports cannot afford to eat healthy and balanced diets. A study In Canada showed that 30% of low income families do not eat the required amount of fruit and vegetables. This is due to the ease and cheap price of most processed foods. Fruit and vegetables are sometimes hard to come by and the families may struggle to come up with healthy recipes to cook based on the few ingredients that they have.
GIFT's educational team will go into the schools and youth movements to create healthy recipe cards. The students will then pack the necessary ingredients in order for the families to create these recipes. GIFT's volunteer drivers will deliver these healthy food packages to the recipients doors. GIFT will also create healthy snacks (ie. dried fruit and oat bars) in their hands on cooking sessions to be given out to the families that receive food packages from GIFT.
