Situation
The impact of the Hungarian Roma Strategy has been limited, especially in the areas of employment, housing, & participation of the Roma in the policy process. The reasons for this include lack of ethnically disaggregated data collection, insufficient assessment of the activities, lack of empowerment of municipalities to prepare local operational plans, information deficit and lack of empowerment of the Roma community to make their municipalities accountable for the fulfillment of the targets.
Solution
This project will advocate for the decentralization of the Roma Integration Strategy in Hungary and the inclusion of the local Roma community members through a successful media advocacy and outreach campaign by mobilizing members of the Roma community at a grassroots level. It will gather evidence on the degree to which initiatives are reaching and benefiting local Roma, which will also be fed back to local and national-level decision makers.
