The civil space for the operation of NGOs is severely compromised for minorities in both countries. In Iraq, minority associations have been closed down, their premises or places of worship attacked, and leaders subjected to specific death threats, kidnappings & killings. In both countries, the participation of minorities in civil administration & the institutions of government remains poor therefore, exclusion from power and protection at a crucial time of transition in their countries.

To strengthen the monitoring and advocacy capacity of civil society organisations and human rights activists representing vulnerable minorities in Iraq and Somalia and promote their effective public participation at local, national and international level.
