    Situation

39 million people in the world are blind. 80% of blindness could be prevented or treated with the right eye care resources, but 90% of the world’s blind population live in developing countries where treatment is often not available. The Flying Eye Hospital is fast approaching the end of its lifespan. United Airlines have donated a new aircraft, which we are now converting. However, we have fallen short of our budget and in order to continue the project we desperately need to raise more funds

    Solution

ORBIS places great emphasis on teaching and training, providing local medical staff with the skills they need to tackle avoidable blindness. At the heart of our work is our Flying Eye Hospital. This hospital with wings offers hands on training in its state-of-the-art operating suite. Operations are used to train local doctors and nurses, using a team of world-class medical volunteers. These procedures are watched live by up to 48 local doctors seated in the classroom at the front of the plane
