    Situation

The ReachOut! Midweek Mentoring Programme (MMP) is an in school, after school mentoring programme delivered weekly by trained CRB cleared volunteers and is run by a ReachOut! Project manager. We currently run 7 MMP's in Hackney and 3 MMP's in TowerHamlets. Through the programme volunteers, mostly university students, become mentors to children aged 9-11 who are specially selected by schools as those whom the teachers feel will benefit most from participating in the programme and having a mentor. All ReachOut! MMPs run from 15:30 - 17:30 one day a week for between 16-20 weeks a year. Boys mentor boys and girls mentor girls. All programmes consist of team sports, fun activities, and a one-to-one mentoring session lasting around 55 minutes each week, during which the mentors and mentees work on specially designed Numeracy or Literacy exercises, written to help improve the child’s understanding of a relevant section of the National Curriculum. We also encourage our mentors to combine an emphasis on character development of their mentee with a progression in their academic competencies, in numeracy, literacy, public speaking and memory skills. Each MMP costs approximately £7k to run per academic year. Please contact Peter Blackwell (ReachOut! London Manager) on 02072496881 for more information.
