If a disadvantaged child accessed one-to-one support early on in their school lives, their chances of exclusion later in life could be significantly reduced. Early Intervention provides one-to-one behaviour coaching for Primary school children (aged 7-11) who struggle to cope in education.

    Situation

News across the UK reports that children as young as 4 are being excluded from school and the cost of this to society is huge. TLG aim to break the cycle of educational failure. The earlier that happens, the less young people will face exclusion. A teacher is often unable to meet the all needs presented by disruptive pupils, meaning they will not receive adequate support to help them deal with emotional and behavioural difficulties that are present behind educational failure.

    Solution

Early Intervention is a cost-effective initiative where volunteers work with struggling children and deliver curriculum enrichment programmes to develop literacy and numeracy. It enables each child to catch up with the learning of the rest of their class. Behaviour coaches help children identify their own difficulties and emotions, whilst helping them learn how to react in a classroom environment.
