Up to 10,000 young people were permanently excluded from school in 2010. With young people experiencing issues such as family breakdown, parental substance abuse and being in care, the need is great to raise young people's aspirations and give them a vision to live with purpose. There is a great need for young people to experience life beyond deprivation and see they can positively contribute in the world, and realise what they have themselves.
TLG will take 2 groups of 6 young people (12 total) to Africa to help a local project working with street children. The young people will experience basic living and will teach, support, develop activities and help with practical work around the site whilst with the project. The trip will be an opportunity for them to experience a different side of life and an opportunity to really contribute and make a difference.
I would be grateful if I could go to Africa because it would be a life changing experience to me.
Brought up in a police station; court, fines & probation. Started to grow up- my life was messed up. Need to put my head down & learn some stuff...
Only I could change my behaviour. I had to see there was more to life than just behaving in that way.
