Our Know Your Numbers! campaign includes the nation’s largest annual blood pressure testing event. The 2007 event won this years Charity Award in the Healthcare and Medical Research category. The only way to know that you have high blood pressure is to have it tested, as it is usually a symptomless condition. Once you know you have high blood pressure you can do something about before it causes a stroke or heart attack.

    Situation

We recruit and resource over 2,500 'Pressure Stations' around the UK which offer free blood pressure testing during the second week of September each year. During the week we test the blood pressure of around 250,000 people. Pressure Stations are located in workplaces, shopping centres, pharmacies, supermarkets as well as in pubs, markets, mosques and churches. They are promoted in a national media campaign to encourage a very broad participation. Each person tested is told their reading, given a record card and has their numbers explained to them. All participants are given information to take away and those with a high reading are referred to their GP or in extreme cases direct to the local A & E department. By registering interest with the charity we can then follow up with a full information pack. Our Know Your Numbers campaign promotes blood pressure testing and takes it our of the doctors surgery and into the community and is a real life-saver.
