European Union Baroque Orchestra uniquely provides talented young musicians from all over Europe with the training and experience to embark on careers in baroque music. It acts as a bridge between conservatoire study and professional life; former members are now in every major professional ensemble

Situation
EUBO was founded in 1985 in response to a growing interest in historically informed performances of baroque music and a consequent demand for musicians. With the continued level of demand for baroque music, EUBO continues to provide the training required. EUBO also reduces the disparity of opportunity between students in countries where baroque music performance and education is well developed and those where opportunities to study baroque instruments or attend concerts are small or non-existent
Solution
A completely new orchestra will be chosen in 2011 from the most talented students from all over Europe. 100 candidates will take part in one of the four-day audition courses and the 22 successful candidates, from 12 or more EU countries, will be members of the orchestra for 6 months. The audition course, which is a self-contained residential course, will provide a unique experience unobtainable elsewhere; those not selected will gain valuable experience to add to their professional development
