More than 10,000 people are feared dead and hundreds of thousands have been forced from their homes after Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, ripped through the Philippines. The storm, which has affected more than 9.5 million people, swept away entire villages, flattened homes and scattered trees and electricity lines. Urgent humanitarian needs include water, hygiene and sanitation, food, medicines, shelter and debris clearance.

Christian Aid and its partners have launched an emergency appeal to provide vital relief to thousands of families in desperate need. This includes providing food supplies, hygiene kits, first aid kits and tarpaulin and blankets to affected individuals and communities.
