    Situation

Typhoon Haiyan slammed into the Philippines on Friday (8 November), causing catastrophic damage. It is the strongest storm ever to make landfall, hitting an area where thousands of people are already homeless after an earthquake in mid-October. The 300-mile wide typhoon has left a trail of destruction with thousands feared dead. The full extent of the damage will become clearer in the next few days as rescue teams reach the more remote areas.

    Solution

The British Red Cross is sending a team to support the thousands of people who have been left homeless, without access to shelter, food or clean water. The Philippine Red Cross has been working non-stop to support people whose lives have been ripped apart. It is providing search and rescue teams to reach people in the most remote areas, and supplying aid to communities that have lost everything.
