    Situation

A huge 7.8 magnitude earthquake has hit Nepal, toppling buildings and destroying roads and infrastructure. Over 5,000 deaths have already been reported and over 8,000 people have been injured. As we get more information through, we fear these numbers will rise. As children and their families come to terms with the aftermath of the quake, water supplies are running low and the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera is growing rapidly.

    Solution

Unicef has over 200 staff working in Kathmandu and the surrounding area, delivering clean water and other life-saving supplies to children and families in danger. Your donation could help us save lives. Unicef already has supplies in Nepal, including water purification tablets, hygiene kits, tarpaulins and nutrition supplies. We are also preparing to send 120 tonnes of humanitarian supplies such as medicine and hospital equipment, tents and blankets for urgent airlift to Kathmandu.
