War Memorials Trust provides a specialist, unique service to community groups, individuals and local authorities who are conserving their war memorial heritage. The programme enables the Trust to provide information across a range of issues, including, but not exclusive to, technical advice and contacts for conservators/contractors, the law, sources of funding, answers to family history enquiries, procedures for correcting errors on memorial inscriptions and adding new names on war memorials (so memorials serve for conflicts subsequent to that for which they were erected) and solutions to protocol issues.

Situation
War Memorials Trust core activity is the protection and conservation of war memorials. This is undertaken in a number of ways all of which need to be funded to enable the Trust to fulfill its objectives of protecting and conserving war memorials. Funding for the Conservation Programme supports the staff who provide the expert service to users. The specialist conservation officer is supported by the Trust's administrator. Staff deal with enquiries from the public and organisations, manage the grant programmes offered by the Trust including the Grants for War Memorials programme administered on behalf of English Heritage and The Wolfson Foundation and run War Memorials Trust own Small Grants Scheme. The associated costs of these roles, which are the key mechanism for the Trust to achieve its objectives are also covered as part of the conservation programme.
