    Situation

One of the areas that the charity is frequently asked to provide information and support for is when there has been a particularly traumatic bereavement. There are very few resources available in this country, whether in the statutory or voluntary sector, that people can access to receive support in this situation. Equally, when children are living with a parent who is dying, their needs for inclusion, involvement and support are often overlooked. Many services provide support leading up to the death, but few like us can guide families on how they might talk to and include children at such a difficult time. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY INFORMATION AND SUPPORT SERVICE •To develop and manage CBC’s direct access support service for individuals, families and schools, particularly in relation to calls involving trauma in children and pre-bereavement situations •To deal with complex/difficult calls and emails around trauma and situations where children need help leading up to a death in the family •To develop and facilitate CBC’s planned Young People’s Advisory Groups aimed at helping bereaved teenagers gain peer support and build their self esteem by helping the charity with advice around grief and loss based on their experiences •To develop skills within the CBC team and provide supervision for CBC’s help-line staff •To write material for the CBC website •To oversee moderation of the web forums for families, for professionals, for teachers, and our young people’s advisory forum EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS •To represent CBC on relevant groups/bodies pertinent to the role e.g. The Childhood Bereavement Network, Healthy Schools etc •To respond on behalf of CBC to key consultation documents •To represent CBC in other arenas where there is a focus on children disadvantaged through bereavement •To deputise for the Chief Executive on bereavement-related issues when required •To respond to relevant media requests as required and liaise with The Chief Executive •To offer consultancy to support external service development e.g. to offer clinical supervision to practitioners in other services, advise on setting up bereavement support posts etc RESEARCH •To keep us abreast of current issues and developments in the field •To oversee research projects/surveys •To research further opportunities for funding for the service MONITORING •To implement mechanisms for monitoring and evaluating the service offered
