    Situation

The project will enable unemployed young people who have shown a desire for these sports to gain National Governing Body Awards in mountain biking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, expeditions and improvised raft building. We will also teach them youth work skills and group management skills so that they can effectively work with other vulnerable, ‘at-risk’ young people. At the end of this training programme the participants will be qualified to either work with us or to work in any other outdoor activity centre or youth based organisation in the UK or abroad. free@last are willing to take the time and the risk, and provide the support for helping these young people to reach their goals and aspirations and we have a wealth of experience and resources to make this project succeed. As well as delivering good quality activities we are able to: Support the young people through the difficulties they face in their chaotic lives Nurture the young adults on the training programme into roles of leadership within their own community Provide the training in outdoor activities and youth/group work skills, enabling them to gain their qualifications Provide equipment for all the activities they participate in (except footwear) However, what free@last cannot provide is: The costs for providing free introductory sessions Living expenses for the trainees (particularly those who give up a lucrative business dealing drugs!) Travel costs to the various venues around the country for training Overheads, including instructor/supervision time Fees for qualifications
