The Academy will be working with leading composers to enlarge the repertoire of concertos for string orchestra, through partnerships that will make commissions from leading composers more affordable for all partners, increase performance opportunities for the new works and make them accessible to wider audiences. The Academy’s costs for the programme is £15,000 per year.

The first three commissions are to Steven Mackey for a concerto for violin, string orchestra and electric guitar, to Alec Roth for a concerto for string orchestra and guitar from Morgan Szymanski and to James Macmillan for a Christmas Cantata.
