To realise our dream of a dedicated building providing services for children and adults with multiple disabilities in our community. We must raise £2.5 million and aim to complete the project by 2010/11.

    Situation

Parity provides services for a vulnerable group of people requiring a high level of support, their needs having been identified in a 2 year research study carried out by the charity. Parity’s pioneering day services currently operate in 2 converted shop units in Farnborough and a church hall in Camberley. The demand for our services is increasing and is likely to continue to do so. Security of tenure on the property that we rent is a constant concern for Parity, having experienced the necessity to find alternative accommodation on two occasions. Appropriate, accessible community buildings available for use during the day all week are extremely scarce. The Farnborough day centre is at capacity and full use is made of the limited space available. The necessity to share the church hall in Camberley requires equipment to be set up and stored daily leading to inefficient use of staff time, limiting the provision of specialist equipment and increasing wear and tear. Hydrotherapy pool provision, while an extremely effective therapy, is also scarce. The benefits of hydrotherapy wear off in a few days. People with profound disabilities would have daily access to the benefits of hydrotherapy, as well as saving on travel time and transport costs. We have identified land to build on and have reached an agreement to purchase a lease from the owners. We have planning permission to build and furnish a dedicated fully accessible building for people with multiple disabilities that provides: a main activity room, hydrotherapy pool, music therapy suite, a sensory room, a therapies room for speech therapy, physiotherapy and complementary therapies, offices, library plus meeting room/training room space. We intend the building to be a centre of excellence for the care and development for people who have profound and complex disabilities. We will also assist like minded organisations with training and best practice facilities to improve the welfare and well being for people with disabilities. The facility will be available for use by other charities and organisations, and will provide an information and support resource for the community.
