Situation
For 50 years, Jews inside the Soviet Union were unable to practice their faith. Memories faded. The chain of tradition was broken. Discrimination made many view their Jewishness as a burden and disability, rather than a vital and fulfilling aspect of their identity.
Solution
ORT aims to rebuild the chains of tradition from the ground up by attracting young Jews to its network of Jewish Day Schools. By offering an excellent secular education specialising in Science and ICT, ORT encourages parents otherwise reluctant to identify as Jews to send their children to its schools, where they are taught a full secular and Jewish curriculum. The young people are then encouraged to take those traditions back home to their families and to help them reconnect to their faith.
