It is proposrd to extend the South Tynedale Railway for a distance of 2¬Ω miles to the existing station at the village of Slaggyford, with a new intermediate halt at Lintley. The extension will be constructed in three phases: (a) from Kirkhaugh to Lintley with a temporary run round loop at Lintley Halt; (b) continue the line to Slaggyford; (c) complete the signalling and sidings at Slaggyford.

Before any significant work can commence bridges 41 to 46,must be repaired. Bridge 41 Occupation Underbridge (Road to Lintley Farm). Work Required = Masonary repairs to north east-wing wall; point wing walls and spandrels; provide handrail each side. Estimated cost = £6,540 Bridge 42 Accommodation Overbridge This bridge provides an access across the railway for the neighbouring farmers. Work Required = Clean off deck thoroughly; including joints between arch stones; and provide new concrete deck over arch and on approaches; drill Cintec ties into arch barrel on the north side; take down and re-build parapet walls; point wing walls and spandrels. Estimated cost = £62,710 Bridge 43 Occupation Underbridge. Spans the U7016 Unclassified County Road, designated as a byway. Work Required = Stitch crack between side and voussoirs and arch barrel; provide handrail each side. Estimated cost = £3,760 Bridge 46 Accommodation Overbridge Work required = Concrete deck; point spandrels, parapet and wing walls; rebuild part of parapet at north-east corner. Estimated cost = £33,750 The total cost of repairing bridges 41 to 46 and making them suitable to carry both the South Tynedale Railway and the South Tyne Trail will be - £106,760.
