St Edward's is renowned for its strength in music but is restricted by inadequate facilities which cannot accommodate the growth of the department. A New Music School will enable us to expand teaching and learning for the benefit of future generations of pupils, teachers and the wider community.

Situation

A recent inspection rated the School's music provision as “consistently outstanding” , but also highlighted the need to “improve the accommodation for the teaching of music through the provision of more appropriate and flexible spaces for practice.” The current music block was built when pupil numbers were much lower and before the school became co-educational. Many rooms are no longer fit for purpose and are too small for current and future requirements

Solution

A New Music School will transform the teaching and learning of music at St Edward's, and ensure continued excellence. This will include: • Two rehearsal rooms large enough to accommodate the orchestras, bands and choirs • Additional classrooms • At least 12 sound-proofed practice rooms • A computer room for composition • A recording studio with control room • Secure instrument and equipment storage space
