Isthmus Cottage & its annex are in desperate need of updating & it is a constant struggle to maintain the premises to the standard that is required today meeting current health & safety legislation as well as the requirements of young people today using the facility. Young people who visit the cottage have 3 top requests for improvement: better heating, beds and showers & have commented the building is looking old, is dull & not young people friendly, but that the site & the views are amazing.

Redevelopment of Isthmus Cottage will allow a staged change in Young Cumbria’s ability to provide facilities for user groups to access & enjoy the surrounding natural environment, enabling Young Cumbria to enrich the experience of disadvantaged young people in terms of immediate enjoyment of the area along with longer-term learning & development. It will widen & strengthen its ability to provide training & development for young people & the wider community.
