    Situation

There is a correlation between exclusion from school and criminality amongst young people. In a report for the Home Office¹ it was shown that 68% of those who had been permanently excluded had been charged with committing crimes and of those 66% committed their first offence AFTER being excluded. 312 pupils were excluded from Coventry schools in 2006 with 12 being permanently excluded. ² Failure to achieve in a school environment results in many potential problems in adult life.

    Solution

In addition to the BTEC qualifications, Acting Out provides an alternative learning environment in which these participants often thrive. For example: • Expressing opinions - within a classroom, the young people may be discouraged from expressing their opinions, here they are actively encouraged to express themselves. • Peer Support - When staging a production they are offered constructive peer support as the whole group are striving toward a common goal. • Professional experience
