We want to help many more children living in the Kibera slum to be able to access education and basic healthcare, and to be free to be children. We already have two centres in Kibera doing just this, and we want to open more.

Situation

Many children living in Kibera are tempted on to the streets at an early age due to a lack of food. They miss out on even a basic education, and are exposed to the harsh realities of life. About 20% of the children we currently deal with are orphans, and half of the rest are from single parent families. Amongst the parents and carers alcoholism and prostitution are common. No-one really knows how many children live in Kibera, but it is certainly hundreds of thousands.

Solution

We want to open more centres like those we already operate in two villages in Kibera. Here we offer children breakfast, assist with access to primary education by buying uniforms, books, etc, help parents to provide for their families through a micro-finance scheme, and provide opportunities for play. Through these practical means we aim to relieve poverty, transform lives and restore hope amongst these children.
