    Situation

Racism and discrimination in Britain and the civic and cultural exclusion of Black and Minority Ethnic communities. Members of many minority communities continue to feel that they have no part in the civic or cultural life of Britain. A prime example of the need for the project came from one of our youth participants, a 19 year-old Black British student who said, “I’m not being funny, but this is a white country. There are no black leaders here.”

    Solution

Research shows that people engaged in culture are more likely to be a positive influence for change in their community. The Meeting will engage new and excluded audiences across the UK in a high quality theatrical experience, including participatory workshops, a multi-media exhibition and youth performance opportunities that foster dialogue about race and equality in the UK. The project will encourage audiences to identify and seek out opportunities for greater equality in their communities.
