Encouraging Change teaches people how to build their own wells or latrines in rural areas of Africa. TALC has translated this manual into French and Portuguese. We want to print and ship copies out for use by health workers in Mali and Mozambique. We will then distribute copies in country.

    Situation

People need access to clean water. They also want to build their own latrines. They need to understand how to build safe, simple reliable wells and latrines. This manual explains, with diagrams, how to do this. There is a great shortage of such manuals in French and Portuguese - so rural workers in Africa have much less material to support their work. They need these manuals to show village people how to build wells that will not collapse in and how to keep the water source uncontaminated.

    Solution

TALC has already produced this manual in English. We have now translated it into French and Portuguese and are improving the drawings to make them clearer. The Ministries of Health in Mali and Mozambique and local organisations working in health or water supply would be glad to receive copies of the newly translated manuals. We would like to print at least 500 copies in each language and ship them out to Mali and Mozambique. TALC could also help with funds for distribution to rural workers.
