    Situation

The problem is a shortage of community facilities. for the local area. The area has 5,000 people living in 2,000 homes. St George's Church built a Community Centre, opened in 2003, which no longer can cope with the demand for community facilities. The problem will get worse as a further 500 homes are due to be built in the area.

    Solution

The problem will be served by a building conversion. Creating a warm, welcoming, sustainable and fully used community building out of the cold, damp and under-used church building. This will be achieved by using renewable energies, optimising insulation and minimising heat loss to deliver a carbon neutral building. It is the cheapest solution in the medium term. The renewable energies are a borehole type ground source heat pump and electricity generated from roof mounted solar panels.
