    Situation

The Municipality of Cop√°n Ruinas, Honduras suffers from a severe shortage of housing. Many poor and vulnerable families live in deplorable conditions exposing the family members to infections from insects living in the walls and diverse diseases such as acute respiratory infections and diarrhoea. These diseases are the main causes of death in the area among children who are under five years old. The inadequate conditions of housing also damages the hope and esteem of families.

    Solution

The project is in its fifth and final year, and will provide support to the remaining 74 of the poorest families in five communities in our Maya Area Development Programme facilitating these families in building their own homes, which will include a latrine and an improved stove. Alongside this work, healthy hygiene practices will be promoted.
