Tong-Len wants to give children begging in the streets of India and scavenging in the rubbish dumps an opportunity for education. In order to attend school these children need a safe and secure environment in which to live and study. The new hostel building will accommodate 64 destitute children.

    Situation

Destitute and homeless children from displaced communities living in makeshift shelters in North India are unable to attend school without the provision of a safe and secure environment in which to live and study. Through the Tong-Len child sponsorship scheme children are rescued from a life of begging and scavenging and are enabled to receive the education and care that should be every child's right.

    Solution

The building of the new Tong-Len hostel will provide a home for 64 children whilst attending school. For many of the children it will be their first opportunity of living in a safe family environment. Tong-Len has already purchased land and started building. Sufficient money has been raised to complete the building to first floor level, but an extra floor would allow the intake of more children. For this we need to raise another £60,000 plus £10,000 to provide recreational areas.
