BRISTOL OLD VIC THEATRE SCHOOL

Ccampaign_8315_App_380

These two new rehearsal spaces will be created by a building to link nos. 2 and 3 Downside Road at our main Clifton site. These ground and lower ground studios will be large enough to accommodate rehearsals for all our theatre productions and provide improved universal access to the main site.

Location

Situation

The majority of theatre training takes place on one site at Downside Rd. Lack of space there frequently requires theatre production rehearsals to take place in hired rooms across the city, causing students to lose integration with the main school community. This is inefficient and uneconomic. Lack of space also reduces our capacity to run our youth theatre and community courses. Additionally the current site is not accessible to all users, a result of many stairs and different ground levels

Solution

The building of a link between the two Victorian villas at Downside Rd will provide two full-size, purpose built rehearsal studios with sufficient height to also run fight and movement rehearsals. It will vastly improve the integration of theatre training activity for students and, through an external lift, provide universal access to ground and lower ground areas. The capacity to develop our portfolio of courses and youth theatre and wider community work will be greatly enhanced.
