Only 5% of the 52m disabled children and young people in Africa good to school and complete their education, even fewer get the job of their choice thereafter. Through projects and advocacy the Big Idea is to change this and ensure that many many more of them recieve the chance they deserve.

    Situation

We estimate that 1 in 10 children in Africa, (that’s up to 52 million children), are living with a disability. According to UNESCO 63% of African children are now finishing primary school but in some countries only 2% of disabled children reach this stage. It follows that a significant percentage of the children still not attending school in Africa are disabled.

    Solution

AbleChildAfrica is working with its network of partners in Africa to develop concrete examples demonstrating clearly how a difference can be made in specific schools and training institutions. In order to achieve the change we are seeking we will also need to influence donors and other development agencies. We will do this by creating a dialogue around these issues and invite stakeholders to visit the specific projects so that we can demonstrate what can be achieved
